HISTORY OF AGRICULTURE IN OXNARD, CA

Diamond A Equipment opened its first location in Oxnard, California, for its rich farming history.

In 1867, the Borchard and Maulhardt families planted 30 acres each of wheat and barley. The wheat rusted but the barley took, and farming was born on the plain. By 1898, the Oxnard brothers financed the world’s largest sugar refinery.

Sugar beets added diversity to the farming diet and the agricultural landscape of the community. This later introduced lima beans, barley, citrus and strawberries to the area. In 1903, the city of Oxnard was incorporated and named after the farming brothers.
